Collaboration between Climate Catalysts and SDGs Center UNHAS Empowers Youth in Environmental Education and Climate Action

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Climate Catalysts and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Center UNHAS have launched an innovative initiative aimed at empowering youth in Eastern Indonesia through comprehensive environmental education and robust climate action. The Climate Action Project (CAP) addresses the critical absence of Environmental Education (EE) and Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) among young people aged 16 to 25 in the region, addressing a pressing need for sustainable solutions amidst escalating global climate concerns.

Despite the urgency of climate change, studies have highlighted a significant gap in sustainability literacy among young people in Eastern Indonesia. The CAP initiative seeks to bridge this gap by equipping youth with the knowledge, skills, and practical tools needed to address climate challenges effectively. Through a multifaceted approach encompassing climate curriculum, courses, case studies, discussions, campaigns, and action initiatives, Climate Catalysts aims to empower youth at different levels, from grassroots to global paradigms, fostering a greener future for generations to come.

The journey of Climate Catalysts has shed light on the pressing need for environmental education and climate empowerment among university students in Eastern Indonesia. Through continuous evaluation and strategic refinement, participants have emerged as proactive agents of change within their communities, catalyzing meaningful impact through initiatives such as the Climate Catalysts Fellowship Programme, Capstone Project Development, and immersive “School of Nature” experiences.

The project sets forth ambitious objectives, including increased participation and engagement, augmented understanding of climate issues, successful development of Capstone Projects, recognition of leadership contributions, robust stakeholder engagement, and the development of dynamic environmental education curriculum and newsletters.

The project’s timeline encompasses strategic initiatives such as program conceptualization, establishment of social media platforms, recruitment of volunteers, partnership development, educational content creation, curriculum development, fellowship programme implementation, capstone project development, celebratory ceremonies, impactful tree planting campaigns, engaging live sessions, and collaborations with stakeholders.

In a remarkable display of youth-led environmental activism, Climate Catalysts, a pioneering initiative focused on climate education and action, has reported significant milestones in their recent efforts.
